What Blocks a Drain on This Coast?

Four causes sit behind a blocked line in a coastal suburb like this, and the camera tells them apart:

Sand

Sand ingress is the beach-side problem: wind carries dune sand into cracked gully traps, and a storm can fill a broken pipe.

Roots

Tree root intrusion from the dune scrub finds any joint that has opened with age.

Clay

The first township streets still drain through glazed clay pipe that has sat in moving sand for about a century.

Grease

Fat and soap line kitchen pipes in every house, coast or not.

How Do We Get the Line Running?

  1. 1

    Ring or send the form

Call (02) 4093 0558 or use the form to explain the fault. We ask enough to bring the right equipment the first time.

  2. 2

    A fixed price first

A plumber inspects the job and names a fixed figure up front. Nothing gets started until you give the go-ahead.

  3. 3

    Look, clear, look again

The camera finds the blockage, the right machine removes it, and a second camera pass shows the pipe flowing.

  4. 4

    Covered for a year

Every job carries our 365-day warranty on all work. If something we did isn't right, ring the same number.

Redhead Drain Services

The drain work falls into six jobs, grouped by where the fault is and why it failed:

Plumber running a drain camera at an outdoor pit

Finding the fault

When nobody knows what is wrong underground, CCTV drain inspection puts it on a screen before a shovel comes out.

Plumber working a drain-clearing machine

Pipes furred with grease or sand

Drain jetting scours the full bore of the pipe, so the plug is gone and not just pierced.

Plumber laying new pipe in an open trench

Toilets and gullies backing up

Gurgling and rising water mean the sewer line, covered under blocked sewer clearing.

Plumber installing a strip drain beside a sliding door

Yards that pond after rain

Downpipes spilling or a lawn under water point to the rainwater system, see stormwater drain work.

Pipe relining equipment set up in a shower recess

Cracked or separated clay

Pipe relining seals the old line from inside, leaving the garden intact.

Tree roots exposed around a pipe in a trench

Roots in the joints

Tree root removal cuts the growth out and finds on camera where it got in.

What Moves the Price of a Drain Job?

A drain price depends first on what has clogged it.

  • The blockage Sand, grease and roots each need a different tool and a different amount of time.
  • The pipe Brittle clay is jetted at lower pressure than PVC, and a broken section is a bigger job than a blocked one.
  • Getting in A drain with no open inspection point, or one under a deck, takes longer.

Night and weekend work costs more, and that rate is on the table during the first phone call.

Sand, Scrub and the 1894 Grid

Sand and shale underfoot

Redhead's ground is sand over shale, and wind off the beach drops sand into open gully traps. Roots from the native scrub behind the beach, along the edge of the Awabakal Reserve, push into any gap.

The oldest drains

The streets laid out for the coal company's township in 1894 still drain through clay pipe, and its joints have rotated in the soft ground. Digging a trench in loose sand is slow and messy, so relining those clay lines from inside is worth pricing.

Drain Questions From This Side of the Coast

How often should an old clay line be camera-checked?

Nothing fixed, but once an old clay drain in the 1894 township streets has choked, filming it again every year or two is sensible. You see whether joints have slipped further or roots are back, and a reline can be booked on your timing, not the next overflow's.

Do you clear stormwater drains as well as sewers?

Yes. Rainwater pipes, pits and gullies get filmed and jetted the same way as sewer lines. During an east-coast low, heavy rain and a high swell arrive together and beachfront outlets can struggle to discharge, and the stormwater page explains that work.

Will a jetter damage old clay pipes?

Not if we look first. The camera shows how sound the clay is, and the jetter pressure is set to suit it. Where a section is too broken to jet safely, relining is the better fix, and you see that on the screen before the hose goes in.

What happens if the camera finds a collapsed drain?

We show you the recording and price the options: relining if enough of the pipe holds its shape, or digging out and replacing the broken length if not. Whichever you pick, you hold a fixed figure before a trench or liner goes in.
